A few weeks ago, my friend Sara asked me to participate in a “Secret Sister Gift Exchange.” I didn’t hesitate, because I believe right now we could all use a little extra joy in our lives. And in agreeing, well, I inadvertently set myself upon the path of creating the ultimate holiday gift guide for her — her collectively, as in all the gifts for all the girls.
How did this happen, you ask? Admittedly, I get a teensy bit carried away when it comes to two things: online shopping and gift giving — I consider both to be art forms. So in trying to find the perfect gift for my assigned “secret sister,” I couldn’t help jotting down (and deciding between) a ton of other gift ideas.
I create a lot of gift guides as part of my day job during this time of year for sites like SheKnows, Bustle, and Romper, so I’m kind of already in the swing of things. Plus, poring over gifts gives me a fun way to while away my insomnia.
But one thing I frequently notice when I’m reading gift guides or creating them is that the gifts are pricey. And, hey, I get it — beautiful things ain’t always cheap, you know? However, I’m of the camp that feels like everyone should be able to give the best girls in their life a great gift without breaking the bank.
