When we bought our first house, it definitely fell under the “fixer-upper” umbrella. And while we weren’t ready to tackle big home renovations when we first moved in (we had two kids under two and it was a scorching hot summer in the South!), we knew there were certain things we could — and, for my sanity, needed to — change. Since I worked from home, I couldn’t go without a home office. Check! Next up? Painting as many walls as I could get a paintbrush on. Check check! We lived only a few miles from the ocean, so I couldn’t resist coastal colors. As a result, I spent weeks with caked-up paint on my fingers, Googling green paint colors for the home.
Yes, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m what you might call a wee bit obsessive about paint colors. Even we aren’t actively looking for paint colors, I like to pick up swatches for fun. I can’t tell you how much my husband loves it when ask him to pick the perfect shade for the hypothetical paint job in my head. He’s got the whole “happy wife, happy life” thing down, so he tends to just let me do my thing when it comes to home DIY and decor. I think the only time he has regretted it is that one unfortunate night I decided to demo the bathroom at 3 a.m. I mean, in my defense, I had no idea taking the old af towel holders off the wall would leave gigantic holes — holes which I would then tape cardboard over and hope he didn’t notice the next morning. Ha! Don’t worry; we got that squared away. (Ooooopsie.)
Fortunately, no walls were harmed in our original search for colors. Frustratingly, though, we found a ton of information about blue paint colors but very little about greens. So, in the spirit of helping someone else zero in on the perfect green paint colors for their home, here are some of the best ones I’ve come across in my (perpetual) search.

NOTE: I painted our guest room this color, and I swear to goodness it is the paint color people ask about the most when they come to our house! It’s a dreamy, soft green-gray that looks good with everything.
2. Sherwin Williams “Softened Green”

NOTE: This was the color of our kitchen before I decided it needed to be white (it’s a galley with little light). Now, it is the color I just painted our 3 yo’s walls. It’s green, it’s blue, it’s grey… this color is a chameleon.

Which green did you paint your guest bedroom: soft fern or softened green?
Hi, Cari! I’m so sorry this comment is a million years later. We used Benjamin Moore Soft Fern! And, seriously, every person who ever went in that room commented on the color. Our style was sort of coastal bohemian, and it worked great. But I would think it would definitely also work great in a farmhouse (or coastal farmhouse, etc) or even a more traditional space. Hope this message finds its way to you!
